Energy at a price you can't beat - FREE!

Printer Friendly Version

Mercey Hot Springs is located in an area of California where no commercial utilities (of any kind) are available and the expense of bringing them in from the closest point available is very cost prohibitive. In order to have sufficient electrical power available to operate the resort’s equipment (i.e. pumps, lights, refrigeration, etc.), a complete, ecologically friendly (hybrid) system has been installed. The system is comprised of several sub-systems that utilize power generated by the sun and wind as well as a diesel generator that runs on waste vegetable oil (WVO); the WVO is collected from nearby restaurants and filtered to remove food particles so that it can be used as an environmentally friendly fuel.

Mercey’s electrical system is comprised of a 1 kW (kilowatt) solar array, 3 kW wind powered generator, 15 kW diesel generator, (2) - 5 kW Inverters and 1,350 amp hours of battery storage. As mentioned above, the diesel generator uses waste vegetable oil as its primary source of fuel. Over time, additional solar arrays and wind powered generators will be installed so that the majority of Mercey’s electrical power requirements will be entirely provided by the wind & sun and burning fuels of any kind will be virtually eliminated.
